Myra Allen
Thankful Every Day
My name is Myra Allen, and I am a 22‑year breast cancer survivor. I was 41 when I was diagnosed in April 2005 with Stage 2 Invasive (Infiltrating) Ductal Carcinoma and HER2‑positive. With both my mother and sister having faced breast cancer—and with my own diagnosis being an aggressive form—we chose to fight it with every measure available.
I underwent a 6 month cycle of chemotherapy, a bilateral (double) mastectomy in November 2005, followed by 33 days of radiation treatment. In May 2006, I completed my reconstruction surgery. 10 years on Tamoxifen oral breast cancer medicine. Next month, I joyfully celebrate 22 years cancer‑free.
I am deeply thankful to God for keeping me. I am grateful for my family, who were my motivation, encouragement, and strength throughout my journey. Every day, I remain thankful for life and for the opportunity to encourage others to make breast health a priority.
